About Made From PA
Made From PA combines a passion for cooking and cocktails with an intense love for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each recipe stars one (or more!) featured ingredient grown or made in PA. That might mean a twist on a Sazerac using Wigle’s rye whiskey, from Pittsburgh. Or a fancy sandwich on bread baked in South Philly. And expect to see a lot of the incredible produce and meats grown all around Central PA (maybe even some grown in my backyard).
Made From PA is about sharing the awesomeness of my home state. For my friends that live here with me — I want you to try out some local products. For my friends from out of state — why not come for a visit? And while you’re here, stop at a farmer’s market or distillery and take something home to experiment with.
As for the types of recipes you’ll find here — I make anything and everything. I’m not Paleo, I eat gluten, and pork is my friend. My very, very good friend. I tend towards lighter cooking, but am not opposed to a decadent indulgence every now and again. I’m equally open-minded about spirits, as long as they are mixed. No straight liquor for me, but when it comes to cocktails I’ll mix in anything from gin to tequila and often make my own infusions. The theme at Made From PA is the focus on using Pennsylvania ingredients in my creations.
Made From PA recipes can certainly be made using substitute ingredients from other areas. But I make no guarantees for the quality of your chicken marsala made from unPennsylvania mushrooms. I don’t know if you want to take a risk like that. We are home to the mushroom capital of the US, after all!
I know this commonwealth. I was born in Philadelphia, went to university in Pittsburgh, and now live in Harrisburg with my husband. For fun we explore the parts of the state we haven’t lived in yet. We’ve hiked, biked, kayaked, motored, wined and dined our way to all corners of it. And I love Pennsylvania. I’m absolutely enamored with it.
By day I’m an experience designer at a neat PA company called Red Privet. I’m passionate about the volunteer work I do for YWCA Greater Harrisburg. And when I’m not in the kitchen or out exploring far corners of the Keystone State, you’ll find me curled up with a book or drinking a beer with my friends.
